DEFINITION

Classification: 257/541

Pinch resistor:

(under subclass 539) Subject matter wherein the resistor element has a structure in the form of a layer of one conductivity type sandwiched between a pair of regions of opposite conductivity type, so that the upper region of opposite conductivity type restricts the thickness of the resistive layer and thus increases its resistivity.

(1) Note. Typically, the resistor will have the same doping profile as the base region of the bipolar transistor, while the lower opposite conductivity type region will have the same doping profile as the bipolar transistor collector, and the upper, or "pinching" region, will have the same doping profile as the bipolar transistor emitter.
