(under subclass 397) Processes involving the step of mechanically vacuumizing the headspace of a container holding food, or otherwise associating with a food containing receptacle an exteriorly applied zone of reduced pressure which reduces the amount of air in the voided space of the container.

(1) Note. Processes involving the step of exhausting the air from the headspace by steam generated from the heated contained food are excluded from this subclass.
