Frequency modulation:

(under subclass 181) Subject matter wherein the instantaneous amplitude of the information signal (i.e., modulating signal) modulates a carrier so that its instantaneous frequency differs from the carrier frequency by an amount proportional to the information signal amplitude.

(1) Note. Combinations of phase and frequency modulation are commonly referred to as frequency modulation.
