DEFINITION

Classification: 123/56.3

Swash plate type:

(under subclass 56.2) Multiple cylinder engine wherein the cam comprises: (a) a disk-shaped plate rigidly connected on an incline to the output shaft, the pistons engage the periphery of the disk-shaped plate with a follower linkage thereby converting reciprocating motion of the pistons to rotary motion of the output shaft; or (b) a disk-shaped plate journaled to an incline to the output shaft such that the plate wobbles without rotating about the output shaft, the pistons are linked to the periphery of the disk-shaped plate by swivel joints so that the reciprocating movement of the pistons produces a wobbling motion of the disk-shaped plate turning the inclined crank producing rotation motion of the output shaft.
