DEFINITION

(under subclass 109) Device in which a flexible element is located between the tool and the work such that, in cutting, the flexible member will take the shape of the tool, transmit the cutting force of the tool to the work, and then urge the product away from the tool which has produced it.
(1) Note. The subject matter of this subclass is distinguished from that of subclasses 111+, in that a tool provided with a flexible element of the type of this subclass does not directly engage the work or product.
