(under subclass 385) Processes wherein a plasma is used during any stage of manufacturing or treating the optical fiber, waveguide, or preform.
(1) Note. A plasma is generally considered to be (a) a gaseous flame or (b) a highly ionized gas composed of ions, electrons, and neutral particles in which the positive ions and negative electrons are roughly equal in number.
(2) Note. Processes wherein a plasma torch or a plasma electric arc is used to form or treat an optical fiber, waveguide, or preform are properly classified in this subclass.
