(under subclass 272) Apparatus having (1) structure by which a part of the gas discharged from the combustion chamber is returned to become a constituent of the engine feed and another part is handled or treated as it is discharged as exhaust gas or (2) structure by which the combustion chamber discharge gas is cooled, purified or separated; and a part of the cooled, purified or separated engine discharge is returned as engine feed and another part is discharged as exhaust gas.
