With in situ removal of nonresist portion of shield:

(under subclass 29) Method wherein, preliminary to erosion of the defined work area, a non-abrasion-protective portion of the shield member is removed from a position overlying the work area.

(1) Note. Included herein is the method wherein an abradant in its initial function cuts through a nonresist portion.
