(under subclass 312) Subject matter having means for causing the image sensor to follow the edge, contour or boundary of an image pattern* (such as an alphanumeric character) so that measurements may be made that are useful in analyzing or recognizing the pattern*.
(1) Note. No physical movement of the image sensing device itself is necessary to follow a pattern* boundary. Light projected and controlled by an image sensor may do the actual moving, as in a flying spot scanner.
