DEFINITION

Classification: 342/396

Omega:

(under subclass 394) Subject matter wherein hyperbolic lines of position are determined by measuring the changes in distances from the transmitters by counting radio-frequency wavelengths in space or lanes (iso-phase lines) as a vehicle moves from a known position, the lanes being counted by phase comparison with a stable oscillator aboard the vehicle.

(1) Note. Omega is a very-long-distance navigation system which operates at approximately 10 kilohertz usually transmitting signals in long bursts of continuous waves every 10 seconds.
