DEFINITION

Classification: 242/327.1

To accommodate convolution speed variations:

(under subclass 327) Subject matter wherein the structure for mounting includes components (e.g., concentric rings or radiating tapered rollers) that collectively support edges of coil convolutions in a manner to reduce abrasion between convolutions of the coil resulting from variations in the angular velocities that develop between convolutions of a coil of material when the material is fed longitudinally while being coiled.

(1) Note. An endless convolutely wound coil whose material is fed axially subjects each of the convolutions to move longitudinally requiring each convolution to move at a greater angular velocity than the adjacent outer convolution. Patents provided for here reduce the friction caused by the convolutions rubbing against each other by a tendency to drive each convolution or groups of convolutions at appropriately different speeds.
