DEFINITION

Classification: 198/456

(under subclass 434) Apparatus wherein a succession of articles moves along a path in a particular direction of movement, and wherein the articles are successively shunted in a direction transverse to, or raised or lowered with respect to, said particular direction to change either the path or the direction of movement of the succession of articles.

(1) Note. The movement of the succession of articles after the transverse shunting can be either a) along a new path that is substantially parallel to the original particular direction, or b) along a new path that is transverse to, or inclined relative to, the the original particular direction, or c) along a new path that is vertical or vertically inclined.
