Internal-combustion engines in which a charge of gun powder or other explosive substances is supplied to and exploded within the cylinder of the engine or combustion-chamber in communication therewith and the energy of the resulting gases converted into work by permitting them to act upon a moving part of the engine. This subclass is intended to include all engines using an explosive substance as above, irrespective of other structural features, cycle, or mode of operation.
