(under subclass 179.1) Apparatus wherein the accessory device comprises means for permitting a portion of the combustible charge in the working cylinder to escape during a part of the compression stroke of the engine, whereby the volume of the combustible charge compressed and ignited upon the initial strokes of the engine is reduced and the external work necessary to start the engine is lessened.
