DEFINITION

Classification: 75/529

With hydrocarbon liquid or gas present:

(under subclass 528) Process wherein a liquid or gaseous compound consisting only of Carbon (C) and Hydrogen (H) (e.g., Propane, Butane, petroleum, etc.) is present during the treatment of the premelted metal that contains over 50 percent by weight Iron (Fe).

(1) Note. The hydrocarbon must be involved in direct or indirect treatment of the molten metal or slag layer thereon and must be present after the melting stage. Use of

hydrocarbon liquid or gas for melting is not sufficient for this subclass.
