.~ With paired coplanar tool-faces (e.g., for stretching flat work)
DEFINITION
Classification: 72/395
With paired coplanar tool faces for stretching flat work:
(under subclass 394) Device wherein at least two of said relatively movable tools have substantially flat work-engaging surfaces and said tool-moving or guiding means is effective to maintain said surfaces approximately in alignment with each other.
(1) Note. Typical of this subclass is a device having two pairs of opposed-face tools arranged to pinch work therebetween usually with an impact blow, and to thereupon move toward or away from each other while holding work, to impart upsetting or stretching force to the region of work between the pinched portions. See accompanying diagram. [figure] [caption]Tool-complex with paired, coplanar tool-faces, arranged to upset flat work (subclass 395).
(2) Note. The tools generally have a hammering or peening effect which distinguishes them from the nondeforming work
clamps of subclasses 293+.
