Hydrocarbon is contaminant in desired hydrocarbon:

(under subclass 250) Subject matter where the unsaturated hydrocarbon which is hydrogenated is an impurity or contaminant in a desired hydrocarbon, a substantial amount of which desired hydrocarbon is present in the feedstock to the process.

(1) Note. The hydrogenation may result in the production of further amounts of the desired product.
