DEFINITION

Classification: 536/24.3

Probes for detection of specific nucleotide sequences or primers for the synthesis of DNA or RNA:

(under subclass 23.1) Fragments of nucleic acids which have utility as probes for the detection of specific nucleotide sequences, or as primers for the synthesis of DNA or RNA.

(1) Note. A probe is a single strand of DNA or RNA which could be labelled, and which hybridizes by complementary base pairing with another single strand of DNA or RNA.

(2) Note. A primer is a sequence of nucleotides which is used in the synthesis of DNA or RNA.
