(under subclass 18) Apparatus in which the likelihood of damage to an element of a burner assembly, e.g., igniter, nozzle, etc. is prevented or lessened by a controlled actuation of a device that (1) moves the element relative to the flame area (2) moves a baffle shielding the element from the frame area (3) directs the flow of a cooling fluid over the element or (4) otherwise modified the transfer of heat to the element from the flame area.
