DEFINITION

Waveguides:

(under subclass 82.05) Apparatus having a waveguide which is in contact with the material to be analyzed and through which light is passed, which light interacts with the material to be analyzed modifying the light which is detected after it leaves the waveguide.

(1) Note. Such waveguides often have a coating thereon which reacts with a substance in the material to be analyzed to produce a change in the coating which in turn modifies the light passed through the waveguide.
