(under subclass 211) Apparatus wherein the solid extended surface, fluid contact means is in the form of a relatively fixed bed of contact material and including means for supporting the contact bed within the reaction chamber, said support means either itself being resilient or being resiliently mounted to provide for the absorption of mechanical shock or to maintain the contact material within the bed or being specifically designed to compensate for differences in thermal expansion of components in the reaction chamber.
