(under subclass 572) Subject matter wherein the platen* is incrementally rotated about an axis that extends lengthwise of the platen, and the ratchet* disc is connected to the platen to rotate about the same axis, and wherein said actuator effects to-and-fro oscillation of a member about said axis, said pawl* being mounted on said member for corresponding oscillation of the pawl so that the pawl engages a notch of the ratchet disc at a first location relative to the typewriter and moves the ratchet and the platen through a first predetermined number of degrees of platen rotation.
