94.5.~ Soft switching, muting, or noise gating

DEFINITION

Classification: 381/94.5

Soft switching, muting, or noise gating:

(under subclass 94.1) Subject matter designed to prevent a momentary, sudden fluctuation of voltage or current (a "pop") in a circuit as a result of a sudden change of an operating parameter in the circuit, such as the application of power; or to attenuate or cutoff on a broad-band basis the audio output of a circuit when the audio signal does not contain intelligence; or to switch off the signal input to a system when the signal or noise level on the input is above a certain threshold (a condition which usually indicates that only noise is present).
