DEFINITION

Classification: 381/326

Non-air-conducted sound delivery:

(under subclass 322) Subject matter in which sound is conducted to the inner ear through the cranial bones, the skin, or the nerves (i.e., bone conduction, tactile, transdermal, transcutaneous, etc.).

(1) Note. The nerves may be stimulated without direct contact therewith. While surgically implanted devices, such as cochlear implants (Class 600, subclass 25), stimulate the nerves through direct contact therewith, other devices stimulate the nerves indirectly with modulated electromagnetic fields. The latter type of device is properly classifiable here.
