DEFINITION

Classification: 378/21

Tomography:

(under subclass 1) Subject matter including means which produces an image of a cross section of an object.

(1) Note. The devices found herein usually include some mechanism which allows relative movement between the source or detector of X-rays and the object being examined. In conventional tomography, the tomos:graphic movement is

typically produced by holding the object stationary and moving the X-ray source and the recording medium simultaneously in opposite directions about a pivot point lying in a plane through the object.

(2) Note. Tomography is commonly referenced in the art by the equivalent terms laminography, planiography, sectional radiography.
