DEFINITION

Classification: 377/57

CHARGE TRANSFER DEVICE (E.G., ANALOGUE SHIFT REGISTER, CCD, BUCKET BRIGADE DEVICE):

(under the class definition) Subject matter where the functional element of the counter of shift register is an electrostatic potential controlled semiconductor structure, whereby counting or shifting is achieved by the sequential transfer of localized charges through storage sites within or at the surface of the semiconductor body.

(1) Note. In some charge transfer devices, such as bucket brigade types as distinguished from CCD types, not all of the charges in the storage sites are transferred.
