By altering quantity or characteristic of fuel within critical area:

(under subclass 207) Subject matter wherein control of the fission reaction is realized (a) by reducing the effective quantity of fission fuel in the critical area, or (b) by effecting an in situ change in the physical state of the fuel.

(1) Note. The change of the physical state is brought about by the lowering of density, such as by melting.
