DEFINITION
Classification: 346/8
Recorders responsive to the direction assumed by a translating member to record either the direction assumed by that member or the rectangular components of direction assumed by that member. These recorders are usually mounted on a transporting member and are responsive to extent of motion of that member as well as to direction assumed by that member and the recorder may be associated with sundry other devices such as compasses, signals and time stamps. Included are devices that record deviation (i.e., left or right) from
a set course, rudder position, steering wheel position, etc.
