(under subclass 2) Subject matter wherein the significant structural details include means for preventing the formation of electric arcs when a circuit is broken or smothering an arc once it forms. The circuit may be broken at a plurality of points as by the provision of auxiliary arcing contacts shunting the main contacts or by means of a magnetic coil arranged adjacent the contacts wherein a magnetic field is generated which tends to repel and extinguish the arc.
