In the devices of this subclass the auxiliary electrode is not supplied with discharge current, but is placed in or near the discharge space and is usually connected to one of the discharge electrodes through a circuit containing the electrode moving mechanism so that the difference in potential between the auxiliary electrode and the discharge electrode controls the operation of the electrode moving mechanism.
