314 /   HD   ELECTRIC LAMP AND DISCHARGE DEVICES: CONSUMABLE ELECTRODES

25WITH ECONOMIZER

DEFINITION

Classification: 314/25

(under the class definition) Subject matter provided with a device known in the art as an economizer which is placed in proximity to the discharge end of at least one of the electrodes.

(1) Note. An economizer may be defined for the purpose of classification in this subclass as (a) a mass of refractory material placed near the discharge end of at least one of the electrodes, usually surrounding the discharge end of the electrode, and designed to receive heat from the electrode and to either return the heat to the electrode or to convert the heat into radiant energy rays, such as light, and/or (b) a body, usually cup-shaped, placed around the discharge end of one of the electrodes and designed to retard the flow of fumes from the electrodes so as to either conserve the heat of the electrode and/or to facilitate complete combustion of the combustible gases in the fumes.
