(1) Note. The term "shear" is used here to denote the cutting action of a cooperating pair of cutters, the edges of which approach, and continue to move past, each other. The term "nip" is used here to mean the cutting action of a pair of co-operating cutters, the edges of which move directly toward each other so that, if the motion continues, the edges will abut.
