490SLITTED RESILIENT DIAPHRAGM OR NIPPLE

DEFINITION

Classification: 222/490

(under the class definition) Devices in which a diaphragm or nipple of resilient material (such as rubber) has an aperture therethrough, the walls of which contact each other in the normal unstressed condition, the walls separating when stressed to permit passage of material and resiliently returning into contact when the stress is removed.

(1) Note. In many of these devices the pressure of the contents causes the diaphragm or nipple to be stressed. Where the pressure creating means is claimed, see appropriate preceding subclasses.
