DEFINITION

Classification: 217/104

(under subclass 100) Subject matter in which the valve consists, essentially, of a flexible diaphragm of rubber or other material placed over an opening which communicates with the interior of the barrel. When the pressure within falls below atmospheric pressure, the diaphragm is raised or distended, exposing the opening, through which air is admitted into the barrel, thus restoring the equilibrium and permitting the liquid contents to be freely drawn.
