(under the class definition) Apparatus which includes a means mounted for motion relative to a supporting frame to engage an above-ground portion of a plant whose roots are disposed in situ in the ground and hold said portion in a desired location and attitude relative to the earth's surface while said portion is severed from the plant root.
(1) Note. These devices usually consist of cooperating moving holding members which move rearwardly at the same velocity as the forward speed of traverse of the apparatus to hold the plant in a desired position while it is severed from the plant root.
