DEFINITION

Classification: 16/291

Over-center spring or linkage travel (e.g., "holdback hinge"):

(under subclass 286) Hinge including means which first causes the elastically deformable element to reach a point of maximum deflection as a hinged member* reaches a particular position in its swing about the hinge axis*, and then allows the element to retreat from the point of maximum deflection as the hinged member continues to swing past the position.

(1) Note. Included herein are hinges having a toggle linkage which serves to bias a hinged member* about a single hinge axis* toward the open and closed positions.

SEE OR SEARCH THIS CLASS, SUBCLASS:

323, for hinges having a spring-biased toggle catch, but wherein the hinged members* are not biased resiliently about the hinged axis*.
