DEFINITION

Classification: 139/170.7

(under subclass 170.6) Apparatus comprising flexible strand or strand-like members disposed substantially parallel to the warps of the fabric being woven but outside the selvage thereof, and provided with means for raising and lowering such members for the purpose of disposing the inactive wefts above or below the path of travel of the active shuttle.

(1) Note. When the strand member employed is taken from the loom warp supply (later to be returned thereto for weaving into the fabric) it is referred to as a displaced warp. Strand or strandlike restraining members which are extraneous to the fabric being woven are known as dummy warps.
